Turkish Super Lig leaders Galatasaray's match against Adana Demirspor was suspended after the opposition decided to walk out of the pitch in protest of a controversial penalty decision. Galatasaray took the lead in the 12th minute through Alvaro Morata's spot-kick before the Istanbul-based club were awarded a second penalty around the half-hour mark. Adana defender Semih Guler was penalised for a foul on Dries Mertens, although the replay showed that the player did not touch the Belgian. The visiting team were left fuming with the decision as they decided to leave the pitch as a mark of protest.

As Galatasaray's game got suspended following the controversial call, Fenerbahce boss Jose Mourinho shared a cryptic social media post without any caption. The post consisted of an image of the manager, followed by the video of Mertens' penalty decision. The last post was a video of Mourinho reading in preparation of his team's upcoming Europa League game against Anderlecht is being shown.

On the day, Galatasaray saw their game suspended, Mourinho's side registered a comfortable 2-0 victory over Alanyaspor in the Super Lig courtesy of goals from Sebastian Szymanski and new signing Anderson Talisca. The win helped them to reduce their gap with Galatasaray to three points, although the league leaders have a game in hand.
